Silicon Valley Soap Box Derby
Zero-emissions racing in cars built by hand. The Soap Box Derby is an All-American tradition stretching back over seventy years. Kids build their own gravity-driven cars, from a kit, with the help of a parent or adult mentor. Then they gather to race those cars down a hill, reaching speeds up to 25 miles per hour. Lions provide volunteer support, sponsor cars and help put the race together. For more information, visit http://www.svsbd.com.
In conjunction with the Soap Box Derby, Lions also help to coordinate a Super Kids Classic. In this race, special needs kids participate in the race, in cars built for two, piloted by qualified Soap Box Derby drivers. This allows kids who are not able to drive their own car to experience the “thrill of the hill.”
